Last minute entry Debbie Tyrell showed up on the day at the Miss Bikini England Championships and took everyone by surprise! Often compared to Hilary Swank’s character in the 2004 American sports drama Million Dollar Baby, Tyrell doesn’t look like your typical boxer. Her training programme
is an intense regime of punch bags, sparring, cardio, conditioning, and weights 5 times a week, which she manages to juggle alongside work and being a single mum. “I’m your normal girl next door, working two jobs, a single mum to a 4 year old, who lives and breathes boxing and the gym,” says Tyrell. But Debbie’s work ethic is anything but normal! “I started training in the gym about a year ago after not having any form of exercise in nearly 10 years. Trying to challenge myself, I wanted to take up a completely new sport, something that I’ve always wanted to do, so decided to give boxing a try. I heard about Hooks Gym in London, home of the renowned London Shoot Fighters and after a few weeks of training, I completely fell in love with the lifestyle. Thanks to Hooks Gym, my body has completely changed and has given me the opportunity to fulfil my ambitions as a fitness model,” says Tyrell.
This 28 year old 5’6’’ underdog, weighing in at a toned and incredibly sexy 119lbs is now getting ready for her first amateur boxing fight. However, this bikini hot bod assures us that it’s more about the journey than the fight. She’s all about inspiring other women to find a passion, believe in themselves, work hard and become whatever they set their minds to. Debbie goes on to say, “I just want to be the best that I can be, and winning the Britain Championships would make all the difficulties worthwhile”.
