| Smiling Her Way to Victory |
Model Britain runner up Destiny Clarke is no stanger to the camera. Spotted by beauty franchise Avon cosmetics for her first job as a teenager, she was a clear favourite in her class with an iconic smile and fashion sense to match.
Destiny has had a long time childhood dream of becoming a model and when she heard
that America’s biggest fitness modelling competition was coming to town, she was not about to let the opportunity pass her by. Her determination, bubbly personality and natural good looks led her to the start of a modelling career in London. Like many young models, Destiny had personal obstacles to overcome and had difficulty in finding the balance between family, social life, school commitments, and following her dreams. She admits that before Model Britain, teenage nerves had got the best of her and she wasn’t sure if she had the determination that it would take to further her career in the modelling industry. The show was a huge turning point in her life and she feels in some ways that the real Destiny is back – and ready to take on the world in a whole new way!
She recalls her show rehearsal with U-Phorm tutor and event comper Laura Church and how all the training came together at the live performance. “When I finally walked on stage I felt on top of the world – it was incredible! I knew all the hard work was worth it at that point, no matter what happened”, says Destiny. She goes on to say “I couldn’t believe that I got second place against all those beautiful girls! But I couldn’t have picked a better girl to lose to,” she says with a smile to best friend and teen model champ Kirsty Ellis.
As a U-Phorm student, Destiny credits Chris Rademacher and the U-Phorm team for giving her the opportunity to succeed at something special in life. What started as a school fitness course became so much more. Destiny says “ Last year was a difficult one for me with some personal challenges. I had been knocked down emotionally so many times and virually lost all my confidene. I feel this has done me the world of good and I’m on my way to becoming happy, bubbly, and smiley again!”
The bubbly teen superstar isn’t wasting any time with her new training programme. She’s got the moves and the smile, but refining her physique and posture will be at the top of the agenda this year. Her passion for dancing helps boost her fitness programme and works perfectly alongside her on-stage modelling performances. She’s also considering the Fitness Britain Pageant contest next year with her new found confidence, she’ll be ready for the fitness round to put her dance talents to show.
With success in mind, it’s back to the gym for plenty of cardio sessions and full body toning. Destiny is always striving to become a better person both inside and out. She knows that with the Fitness Britain Tour bringing in the most beatiful and talented young people from England, Wales, and Scotland this year, she’ll have to be in her best shape of her life to have a chance at the title.
At the 2011 Championships in September, she hopes to beat out best friend and rival Kirstly Ellis for the title. Although admiting that she would feel a little bit bad about it, “When the shoes go on, the gloves come off!” she says with a cheeky smile. In the meantime, she’ll be pursuing other leads within the modelling industry. At such a young age, Destiny has a promising future and will no doubt be smiling her way onto bigger and better things in 2011.
